Business Spotlight: Camida

The Irish company keeping the shelves stocked behind the scenes

Most people will never see the raw materials that go into their medicines, paints or breakfast cereal. Camida makes sure those materials arrive, on spec and on time. For 35 years, this Irish company has been quietly sourcing and distributing specialised chemicals and ingredients for manufacturers across Ireland, the UK and Europe.

This week, fetch.ie is shining a light on a business that does the hard, unglamorous work most of us take for granted, and does it to a standard that ranks among the best in the world.

“We don’t ask. We listen.”

Camida doesn’t work from a fixed product catalogue. In fact, the company has no product list as such. Instead, it starts with the customer: what they need, to what specification, and why.

A team of technical sourcing specialists then matches those needs with the best supplier for the job, drawing on suppliers from all over the world. As the company puts it: “We don’t push our customers. We pull.”

That approach is backed by long-standing Principal contracts with leading manufacturers. Camida acts as both distributor and agent for these carefully selected Principals, providing support, technical knowledge and local representation.

Camida also runs a vendor reduction programme. By consolidating suppliers and customising distribution channels, it helps customers cut raw material costs and simplify their supply chains, with fewer vendors to manage and one partner who knows their requirements.

Three divisions, one customer-first approach

Camida’s work spans three core areas:

  • Life Sciences: pharmaceutical raw materials, specialised fine chemicals and intermediates for pharmaceutical synthesis, formulation, biopharmaceutical manufacturing and diagnostics.
  • Industrial: chemical intermediates and additives for coatings, printing inks, adhesives, sealants and resins.
  • Ingredients: products, service and technical solutions for the food, beverage and animal nutrition industries.

In Life Sciences, Camida works with some of the best-known names in the industry. Its partners include BASF (organic intermediates), Arxada (diketene and ketene hydrocyanic derivatives), Ascensus (borohydrides, borons, alkali metals and metal salts), BioSpectra (premium GMP fine chemicals), Daikin (HFA medical propellants), Pennakem (furan derivatives) and Spectrum Chemical (fine and laboratory chemicals).

In an industry where quality standards and service levels are non-negotiable, that combination of strong supplier relationships and a growing, customer-driven product base has made Camida a trusted partner for raw material supply.

Quality you can check, and a top-5% sustainability rating

Camida’s quality management system is certified to globally recognised standards. Its accreditations include:

  • NSAI-certified ISO 9001:2015 quality management
  • BRCGS Agents and Brokers certification
  • GMP+ Feed Safety Assurance
  • GTDP (Good Trade and Distribution Practice)
  • Responsible Care, the chemical industry’s sustainability commitment

The standout is sustainability. In May 2026, Camida earned an EcoVadis Gold rating, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed worldwide.

Camida is also a founding member of the INDIS network, which gives it access to international suppliers and global markets without losing its personal, customer-first service.

The people behind the chemistry

Camida describes itself as a customer-driven company, and that shows in how it’s organised. Its Life Sciences team, led by Chief Commercial Officer Orla Heenan, includes dedicated sales managers for Ireland, the UK and the EU. Customers deal with people who know their market and their requirements.

After 35 years, a vast international network of contacts and long-standing relationships with industry-leading manufacturers, Camida’s goal is unchanged: deliver the highest standard of service to every customer.

From all of us at fetch.ie, congratulations to the Camida team on the EcoVadis Gold rating, and thank you for showing what Irish businesses can do on a global stage.
